Martha Stewart & Macbeth

While leading numerous people to success, ambition also became the one of the major factors that causes downfalls.  Throughout history, great leaders always held strong ambition, however being overly ambitious has damaged many people’s career. Martha Stewart is an example.

In her early years, Martha Stewart got the public’s attention by writing books on cooking, decorating and entertaining. When she expanded her career to magazine and television shows, Stewart gradually became an icon of this particular field. She was almost considered an ambitious workaholic. With her strong passion of her career, Stewart founded her own company in 1997 and named it Martha Stewart Omnimedia Inc. (Chen, [Pg.12] ) She provided products for many different areas. She had branches in publishing, television, merchandising, and internet/direct commerce. She gradually became greedy and power hungry. In 2003, she started to be involved in insider trading. She had inside knowledge of what a stock would do and sold based on that knowledge. In July 2004, Martha Stewart was sentenced to five months in prison and fined $30,000. (Business Leaders Profile for Students, [Para. 3])Although Stewart started her career again after five months, her loss of good reputation is irreparable.

Martha Stewart and Macbeth are both very ambitious leaders. They both had huge accomplishments and kept aiming for more. Macbeth committed lots of crimes in order to become the king and Stewart used dishonesty to try and further her career. They both had a tragic downfall which could have prevented if they had not been so overly ambitious.
